Bank of Cape Verde maintains benchmark interest rates.

The Bank of Cape Verde (BCV) "decided to keep benchmark interest rates unchanged," it announced in a statement following the latest meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee, held on Thursday.

According to NM, citing Lusa, the BCV maintained its benchmark interest rate and the rates for standing liquidity-providing and liquidity-absorbing facilities at 2.5%, 2.75%, and 2.25%, respectively.

The central bank also decided to keep the minimum cash reserve requirement at 12%.

"The decision takes place against an international backdrop still marked by rising inflationary pressures globally, driven by escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the resulting increase in international energy prices," it explained.

Despite the "adverse" external environment, the BCV indicated that the Cape Verdean economy "is showing some resilience, with available indicators pointing to growth in economic activity during the second quarter, supported by an increase in domestic demand."
