Best practices for using your cards

Practical recommendations for using your BAICV cards safely — day to day, when shopping online and while travelling.

Protect your card and PIN

Memorise your PIN and never write it down or share it with anyone — not even the bank.
Do not keep the PIN together with the card or in your wallet.
When entering the PIN at an ATM or POS, shield the keypad with your hand.
Sign the back of the card as soon as you receive it.

Shopping and paying online safely

Only buy from trusted sites — check for the «https» address and the padlock in your browser.
Prefer the Visa Prepaid Virtual card for online purchases: load only the amount you need and your main card is never exposed.
Never enter your card details through links received by email or SMS.
Always confirm the merchant and the amount before authorising the payment.

Withdrawals and payments at ATMs and POS

Check the machine: if the card reader looks loose or tampered with, do not use it and notify the bank.
Do not accept help from strangers at the terminal.
Keep your receipts and check your transactions regularly.
Count and store your cash safely before leaving.

Your card when travelling

Inform the bank of your travel dates and destinations.
Carry an alternative means of payment and keep the support contacts to hand.
Turn on transaction alerts and set limits suited to your trip.

In case of loss, theft or fraud

Block the card immediately — through BAIDIRECTO or the 24-hour support line.
Notify the bank and, where applicable, report it to the authorities.
Monitor your transactions and immediately dispute any you do not recognise. Acting fast is crucial.
